All Year Six pupils are members of the School Council, since we have had small numbers in each group for the past few years.
The members decide which roles on the council are needed and then decide which responsibilities they wish to take. Each term they change roles, and in the event of two or more children wishing to take on the same position, a secret ballot is held.
The roles at present consist of Chairperson, Vice-chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity, Health and Safety, Fundraising events.
The School Council has organised various fundraising events – for the school or for charity; fun craft activities, ‘Tilney’s Got Talent’, ‘The Great Tilney Bake-Off’, sports activities as well as supporting and helping ‘The Friends of the School’ with their own fundraising.
The children on the School Council decided they would like to present their own awards at the weekly celebration assemblies, giving one child in each class an award recognising and celebrating good, kind or helpful behaviour at playtimes. This year they also thought up their own idea to present a weekly award (which they designed themselves) in the autumn term to the Reception children for ‘good sitting in assembly’!
The School Council meets at least once a week, with Mrs. Clarke overseeing their meetings and acting as a co-ordinator between the staff and The Friends of the School.
